Everyone loves stamps, even Coronavirus stamps

One "trick" that is used very often, sometimes annoyingly often, is to link company communication to a hot topic in society at the time. This also applies to science communication and it's starting in Romania as well: most successful Communication initiatives from universities and research institutions in this area were related to the topic of Coronavirus.

But sometimes, science can bring something extra to the table besides simply being related to the "topic of the day": it can bring a completely new, fresh, unexpected perspective, it can provide a moment of respite from difficult news.

This was my perspective in this in a science article I wrote for Mindcraft Stories. I spoke to a researcher who has started to inventory coronavirus-themed mailings from around the world.

They are spectacular and reflect even differences in philosophy and approach between countries.

The first COVID-19 stamp appears to have been issued by the Iranian Post on 17 March, and since then stamp collectors around the world have been tracking a new phenomenon: coronavirus stamps. Such stamps quickly surfaced in Iran, Vietnam, Switzerland, the Isle of Man, Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, and since June many more have been added.
