Event: How we talk about science

On Tuesday, at 18:00, I invite you to join me in a discussion organised by British Council about science communication, with Cristian Presură, Madlen Șerban and Dragoș Tătaru. It will be live on Facebook.

Details:

The past year has shown us how important it is that the messages of science professionals reach the general public as clearly as possible - because scientific discoveries and technological developments affect us all. In this context, how important are communication skills to the success of teachers, researchers and students in STEM fields? What role do they play in increasing public understanding, interest and support for science? And how can we better talk about science to those around us, whether students or adults?

Based on the model of the science communication competition #FameLabRomaniaOn Tuesday, 16 March, from 18.00, the British Council Romania and the Soroptimist International Union of Romania invite you to a discussion about how we talk about science, with Mădălina Cocea, Cristian Presură, Madlen Șerban and Dragoș Tătaru.

🗣️Mădălina Cocea has been using her curiosity and keyboard for 16 years to highlight research and open up the scientific community to a neglected audience in research: the general public. She writes articles popularising Romanian scientific results, guides professors and researchers in their relationship with the media and advises them on how to make themselves understood by journalists, organises science events for the public and takes care of the mandatory impact strategies of European projects, from plan to implementation. She shares her job with others on comunicarestiintifica.co.uk

.🗣️Cristian Presură is a Romanian physicist, inventor, author and researcher. He is currently a researcher at Philips, the Netherlands. He has published dozens of papers and patents, and is very active in popularising science in Romanian, writing articles for newspapers, magazines and television. He is the author of the books Physics told (Humanitas, 2014) and A journey through the universe (Humanitas, 2019). He can be followed weekly with a new video on the youtube channel "Physics with Cristian Presură".

🗣️Madlen Șerban is an associate professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Bucharest and former director of the European Training Foundation, a European Union agency based in Turin, specialized in human capital development policies.

🗣️Dr. Ing. Dragoș Tătaru is a Senior Researcher at the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics in Măgurele and one of the organizers of the Summer School of Science and Technology in Măgurele. The opening session will be opened by Nigel Bellingham, Director of the British Council Romania, and Mihaela Felicia Savu, President 2020-2022 of the International Soroptimist Union of Romania.
